Rayner Jae Liu presents

An all-win approach to inclusion & belonging

I'm Rayner Jae Liu, a diversity, equity, and inclusion leader creating scalable solutions to cultural and political problems. Highly futuristic and pragmatic, I help leaders and organizations resolve their hidden conflicts around culture, diversity, equity, and inclusion and develop cultures and brands that reflect an enlightened perspective on work and collaboration.

About me

Inclusion doesn't have to be hard: unlock the power of diverse teams and organizations naturally

How can you be fully yourself without hurting anyone else? That is the question of inclusion.I've spoken with people across the political and cultural landscape about their problems with DEI. It is a minefield of triggers and misunderstandings. A strong DEI professional is a person who can wrestle with "impossible" human forces and bring people together the same way an expert data scientist can wrangle with "impossible" data sets and procure insight. My whole-systems approach focuses on three pillars of sustainable DEIB: a focus on transcendence, not guilt, a developmental approach to inclusion, and a fierce commitment to equity. Through nearly a decade of guiding leaders and organizations to the next level, I've learned that once you get to the other side, inclusion is the most natural thing in the world.

My experience

12+ years across global DEI, executive coaching, talent, and organizational change

I've been doing diversity and inclusion long before it was a trend or operating principle in culture and business.Since 2012, I have been developing breakthrough inclusion methods and supporting companies, including Samsung, Intel, and NASA with strategy and leadership, facilitation and programming, and research published in CNN, WSJ, and Financial Times.I've taught at Harvard and my coaching clients include senior leaders from Deloitte, Wells Fargo, and Headspace, and I am a faculty member at New Ventures West overseeing the development of new coaches.

Global remit

Cultural intelligence to supercharge your effectiveness and reputation, taught at Harvard and NASA

I earned my B.A. from Duke University in Cultural Anthropology and Political Science, graduating with honors and concentrating in international relations (security, peace, and conflict). I also trained in neuroscience at Stanford University, specifically around emotions and the brain and am a certified Integral Coach® and professional coaching faculty (ICF ACTP L2).I'm fluent in English, Mandarin, and Spanish and an elementary speaker of French and Swedish. My work experience spans the United States, Sweden, India, and China, and I'm often asked by natives of the places I visit if I am native to their country and culture.

Recognition and awards

Recognized by Melinda Gates, Miss America, and Marianne Williamson

My approach to advancing equity has been recognized by and presented alongside business leaders and activists, including Melinda Gates, Miss America Nina Davuluri, and NYT Bestselling Author Marianne Williamson.I've also spoken about my approach to equity and inclusion on multiple podcasts, panels, and conferences across the U.S., including conferences at Duke University and Harvard University.

Thought leadership

I've been awarded by Fama Technologies for my data-driven thought leadership on toxic behavior in the workplace and published in professional publications for my work on diplomacy and activism. My top posts include notes on what makes a powerful DEI leader, how to find the humanity in people with different worldviews, theoretical versus operational integrity, systems thinking, the bias of literalness, the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, ways to deepen your knowledge of feminism, and the skill that 99% of diversity and inclusion job descriptions are missing.
